….As Ambassador Mary Leonard Expresses Interest
Akwa Ibom State has been rated as being blessed with veritable and quality mineral reasources for enhanced business and investments opportunities.
This was part of the statements made by the United States of America Ambassador to Nigeria, Her Excellency, Mary Beth Leonard during her visit to the Ministry of Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport on Thursday 6th May, 2021.
The Ambassador who disclosed that the focus of her visit was to interact with stakeholders in the state in order to know the various opportunities available for investments, assured of the United States Government’s readiness to partner the Akwa Ibom Government in key areas of economic development apart from the health sector.
She expressed delight in the investments opportunities the state has, which she noted will attract more investors for the purpose of business partnership.
According to her, one of the target area of investment is the development of Ibom Deep Seaport project which approval has been secured by the State Government.
The Chairman, Technical Committee for the realization of the Ibom Deep Seaport, Mrs. Mfon Usoro presented the concept of Ibom Deep Seaport to the US Ambassador to Nigeria and her team on the sideline of her three days working visit to the state.
On his part, the Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr. Akan Okon, reemphasized that the aim of the meeting with the US Ambassador was to x-rayed the various investments opportunities available in Akwa Ibom State.
He said the US team has agreed on partnership with Akwa Ibom State Government. He maintained that the state has lots of investments opportunities which in the next few years will become a destination of choice for more investors.
The Economic Boss noted that the discussion also focused on issues of transparency,
accountability and efficiency as it relates to Akwa Ibom State, and emphasize that Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration embraces the concept of open governance and has adopted citizen’s budgeting concept.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Linus Nkan, thanked the US Government for selecting Akwa Ibom State for the implementation of the USAID scheme.
While informing them that Akwa Ibom State has set up an office for the USAID in readiness for the take off of their programme, the Chief Finance Officer, inferred that the programme will enhanced our public accounting ability for accountability and transparency of the State’s funds.
