On Friday March 19, 2021, the Akwa Ibom State Government flagged off the Vaccination exercise for Top government functionaries and Strategic Stakeholders at the Banquet Hall of Government House Uyo.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem took the fist shot on behalf of the Executive arm of Government (The Governor and Deputy were out of the State on official functions), The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey and the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Godwin Abraham took for the legislature and Judiciary respectively, while the Head of the Civil Service did so for the state workforce. The State Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, Paramount Ruler of Uyo and the Chairmen of local government Areas also took their shots. Thereafter, Honourable Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, Governor’s aides led by Elder Ufot Ebong and other high ranking stakeholders registered and received the vaccines.

The first phase of the vaccination which is currently ongoing is for frontline health workers and high level government officials and strategic stakeholders.

The event had representatives of NAFDAC, WHO, UNICEF, NPHCDA, NCDC, NMA.
